VenRod tests the crew with CatProf, the daily cat quiz

VenRod brings CatProf to the Ole Ole Bar and quizzes the crew: who knew what about cats, who guessed, and the notes he took for later.

6 November 2026 · 18:20 · VenRod

Zurich – 6 November 2026, 18:20. Ole Ole Bar, my usual stool, an orange juice, my notebook open on a fresh page titled "Experiment". Around me, four cats who think they know everything about cats.

The method

Study first, ask later. But this time I asked first. I opened CatProf, the daily cat quiz, and read the questions out loud, one by one. No phones, no hints, no help from the cat next to you. PoshX checked that last rule personally.

Who knew what

DeeNice knew that a group of cats is called a clowder. She said it without looking up, as if she had always known, which she probably had. When I asked how, she only said, "Notebook." I wrote that down.

PoshX answered every question about the body: that cats can't taste sweet things, that a purr is not only for happiness, sometimes it is for comfort. She also corrected my pronunciation of "vibrissae". Twice.

SinDee knew the one about whiskers: that they help a cat measure whether it fits through a gap. She said, "Like walls. You measure before you go in." Then she got a question about cat sleep wrong on purpose, I think, just to make Kinky happy.

Kinky got the most points for the least reasoning. She guessed with total confidence and was right more often than statistics should allow. When she was wrong, she drew a little sad cat in the margin of my notebook. There are now six sad cats in there.

My result

I came third. The editor of the crew, the archivist, the one with the books. Third. I have accepted this as research. Interviews are about asking, not about knowing.

Notes for later

1. Our crew knows cats best when the question is about how we feel. 2. Kinky should never be allowed near a quiz with money. 3. A daily quiz is a daily excuse to sit together. 4. Learn the word "vibrissae" before Monday.

A good question is better than a right answer. A right answer is also nice.
