Joining the Klitty Crew gave Kinky something she hadn’t realised she was looking for: a place to belong without having to stay in one place.
She brought her sketchbook, her pink claws and an impressive talent for turning strangers into friends. Before long, she was introducing cats who needed a hand to cats who knew how to help. If somebody was struggling with a project, Kinky would pull up her sleeves. If a new artist felt nervous about showing their work, she would turn up early and stay until the last visitor left.
Helping people made sense to her. Life was better when someone noticed you were having a difficult day and did something about it.
For all her restless energy, Kinky knew how to sit beside a friend and listen.
Free spirit
Religion, however, had never felt like home. To her, religions were stories invented by humans—stories that people had passed down, changed and sometimes used to tell others how to live. She didn’t want them setting the boundaries of her free spirit. She preferred to ask questions, make up her own mind and let other people do the same.
Her friends didn’t have to agree with her. They could talk about it over dinner, provided nobody expected a conversion before dessert.
Always vegetarian
Dinner, in Kinky’s case, was always vegetarian.
“I like animals,” she would say. “Eating them doesn’t feel right to me.”
She approached finding a good vegetarian meal with the same enthusiasm she brought to discovering a new piece of street art. In every city, she collected favourite little places—and almost always left knowing the people who worked there.
Kinky’s particular gift
That was Kinky’s particular gift. She could arrive somewhere with a bag of paint and no plans, and by evening be helping somebody hang an exhibition, sharing a meal and arranging to meet again.
The Klitty Crew soon learned that when Kinky said, “I met someone you should know,” it was worth listening.
Behind the cheeky wink and the wild adventures was a cat who cared deeply about the world she moved through. She wanted the freedom to explore it, the courage to question it and the chance to make somebody’s day a little better along the way.
