Keith Haring (1958–1990) started with chalk drawings on empty advertising panels in the New York subway and became one of the best-known artists of the 1980s. His radiant baby, barking dog and dancing figures were made to be understood by everyone – which is why they are still everywhere today, on walls, in museums and on T-shirts.

Here you find the Keith Haring Foundation and its list of public works, the murals you can still visit – Tuttomondo in Pisa, Crack Is Wack in Harlem, Collingwood in Melbourne and the AIDS mural story in Barcelona – museums with his work from New York to Japan, documentaries and tutorials on YouTube, Keith Haring on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Flickr, our guides on valuing street art and pop art prints, and street art Keith Haring posters, prints and gifts on Amazon.

Questions about Keith Haring

Where can I see Keith Haring murals today?

The best-known murals still on view are Tuttomondo on the wall of Sant'Antonio Abate church in Pisa, Crack Is Wack in Harlem, New York (visible from FDR Drive at 128th Street), the Tower at Necker children's hospital in Paris, the Collingwood mural in Melbourne and the mural inside the M HKA museum in Antwerp. The Keith Haring Foundation keeps a map of all surviving public works.

Is there a Keith Haring museum?

Yes – the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection in Hokuto, Yamanashi (Japan) is the only museum devoted entirely to Keith Haring, with around 300 works. Major pieces are also in the collections of MoMA and the Whitney in New York, The Broad in Los Angeles and the Stedelijk in Amsterdam.

How much is a Keith Haring worth?

It depends on what it is. Pop Shop merchandise, posters and later reproductions are usually worth little. Signed and numbered screenprints from his own editions typically sell for a few thousand up to several tens of thousands of dollars. Unique paintings, drawings and subway chalk drawings can reach six or seven figures – his major paintings have sold for millions at auction. Compare the auction results above or get a free estimate from a photo.

How can I tell if a Keith Haring print is real?

Check for a pencil signature and an edition number, the publisher's details, the paper and the provenance – a receipt from a gallery or auction house helps a lot. Be careful with «signed» prints without a number, posters sold as originals and works without any paper trail. When in doubt, ask an established gallery or auction house before you buy.

What does Keith Haring's radiant baby mean?

The radiant baby – a crawling child surrounded by rays – was Haring's tag from his subway days. He described it as the purest and most positive experience of human existence, and it stands for innocence, hope and new life, although its meaning shifted with the themes of his later work.

Are there Keith Haring exhibitions in 2026?

Yes. «Keith Haring in 3D» at Crystal Bridges in Bentonville runs from June 2026 to January 2027, and a large retrospective with more than 140 works opens at Palazzo Braschi in Rome in October 2026 and runs until April 2027. The foundation's exhibitions page lists all current shows.
