San Francisco street art: Mission murals, prints and photos
San Francisco is best known for the murals of the Mission District. Alleys such as Balmy Alley and Clarion Alley are lined with painted walls and garage doors, and they draw visitors from around the world. San Francisco street art is closely linked to this mural culture, but the city also has an active graffiti scene. This category collects prints, photos, books and souvenirs connected to it.
What you find in this category
- SF street art prints: posters, giclées and screenprints of motifs linked to the city, from open runs to smaller signed releases.
- Mission District murals: photographs, postcards and prints of murals in the Mission and its alleys.
- SF graffiti photos: photographs of walls, rooftops and trains, sold framed or unframed.
- SF street art books: photo books and guides documenting the murals and their artists.
Many listings are photos, prints, books and souvenirs. A mural stays where it was painted, so what you can buy is usually an image of it or a related studio work by the artist. Many muralists also make smaller paintings and prints, which can be a way to support artists whose public work you admire.
What to check before you buy
For any piece of San Francisco street art, ask who made it, how many copies exist and what condition it is in. A photo of a mural is a different thing from a print released by the muralist. Look for a hand signature, details on the medium and, for prints, whether the run is limited or an open edition.
- Ask for close-up photos of the signature, any numbering and the back of the work.
- Treat "in the style of" or "inspired by" as a sign that the piece is not by the artist named.
- Be careful with anything described as taken from a wall or door. A street piece removed from its location raises legal and ethical questions.
- Check paper and photographs for creases, stains and fading.
The listings come from independent eBay sellers and are not checked by us.
